A video doorbell replaces a normal doorbell with a camera, microphone and speaker, so you can see and talk to whoever is at the door from a phone, wired, on battery, or with no Wi-Fi at all. Xingliao, a Shenzhen manufacturer founded in 2014 with 110 staff, makes Wi-Fi, battery, 4G and no-Wi-Fi video doorbells for OEM buyers.

  • Variants: Wi-Fi, battery-powered, 4G and no-Wi-Fi models
  • Features: two-way audio, PIR detection, cloud or local storage
  • Customisation: OEM app, firmware and packaging
  • Programme: from 500 pcs, samples in 7 to 15 days

A video doorbell is the one smart home device that has to work for a stranger who knows nothing about it. A visitor walks up, presses a button, and expects someone to answer. If the call arrives thirty seconds late, or the visitor cannot tell which part of the plastic to touch, the product has failed no matter how good the camera is. That constraint shapes every engineering decision on this page.

XingLiao builds Wi-Fi, battery and 4G video doorbells in Shenzhen for brands, distributors and apartment developers. We build on proven platforms with 7 to 15 day sampling, and we support both the standard Tuya route and white-label firmware for clients with volume.

Doorbell specifications we build to

Parameter Standard build Why it matters
Resolution 2 MP, 3 MP or 5 MP with wide-angle lens A doorbell needs to show a face and a parcel — vertical field of view matters more than raw pixels
Power Rechargeable battery, 8–24 V AC transformer, or USB Transformer wiring is the dividing line between retrofit and new build
Connectivity Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz; 4G LTE variant 2.4 GHz is not a limitation — it is what reaches through a front wall
Chime Existing mechanical chime, or wireless plug-in chime Compatibility with existing chimes is the number one pre-sale question
Night vision IR with automatic cut filter Parcel deliveries happen after dark
Audio Full duplex two-way talk Half duplex makes conversations feel broken
Storage microSD and cloud Cloud subscription is where the recurring margin is
Access RFID card, keypad, or fingerprint on selected models Turns a doorbell into an access point for small offices
Ingress IP54 to IP65 depending on model Less sealing needed under a porch than on an open gate

Power and wiring: decide before you quote

Battery doorbells are the easiest to sell and the easiest to install. No transformer, no chime wiring, no electrician. Their weakness is that they sleep to conserve power, so the first second or two after a press can be lost — and Wi-Fi doorbells on a weak signal drain fast. We size batteries against a realistic daily trigger count and a defined wake-up latency, and we publish both numbers rather than the flattering one.

Transformer-powered doorbells need 8 to 24 V AC at the door, which exists in most North American homes and in newer European builds but not in older European apartments. Where it exists, this is the better product: always-on, instant call, no charging. Where it does not, you are selling a battery unit or a video intercom with its own indoor monitor.

There is a third case worth knowing about: the site with no power and no Wi-Fi at all — a gate, a farm entrance, a holiday property. That is a 4G doorbell with a SIM and a solar assist. It is a different product at a different price, sold through different channels, and it should not be confused with a consumer doorbell in your catalogue.

Getting the chime right

Most returns on doorbells are not camera failures; they are chime failures. The buyer installs the unit, the app works, and the existing mechanical chime in the hallway stays silent. The result is a product that technically functions and practically does not.

We handle this three ways, and the right one depends on the market:

  • Direct drive of an existing chime — works in most North American homes, needs the transformer voltage to be in range.
  • Wireless plug-in chime included in the box — the safe default for Europe and for any market where the existing chime cannot be driven reliably.
  • App-only notification with an optional chime accessory — lowest cost, but the weakest experience for families without phones in every room.

If you are unsure which to specify, include the wireless chime. It costs a few dollars and removes the most common reason for a return.

Where video doorbells get installed

  • Single-family homes in North America: transformer-powered, chime-compatible, sold as a security upgrade.
  • European apartments: battery units, because there is no wiring at the door and often no permission to add any.
  • Gated entrances: 4G or long-range RF solutions with RFID access, sold through access-control channels.
  • Small offices: doorbells with keypad or card access, functioning as a light-duty entry system.
  • Developers and handover packages: matched doorbell plus indoor monitor, specified at build stage.

Private label and project volumes

Standard models with your logo, housing colour, packaging and manual start at 500 pieces per colour. Firmware-level changes — your own app, custom call behaviour, branded voice prompts — begin around 3,000 to 5,000 pieces. New enclosure tooling takes 25 to 40 days.

Doorbells are the most firmware-sensitive product in the smart home range. Call latency, wake-up reliability and notification delivery depend on the platform, not the hardware, so we recommend a pilot batch before a full run, and we maintain per-client firmware branches so one client's change never reaches another's devices.

Distributors usually pair a doorbell line with security cameras for the same app account, smart locks for a complete entry story, and a mesh router where front-door Wi-Fi coverage is weak.

Certification and privacy

A doorbell films a public-facing area, which means privacy law applies in most markets. In Germany, for example, a camera that captures a neighbour's doorway or a shared path is a known legal risk, and products are returned on that basis. We advise including a privacy-zone feature in the app and stating coverage clearly in the manual.

Electrically we build to CE and RoHS for Europe, UKCA for Great Britain, FCC for the United States, and PSE for Japan. Battery variants need UN38.3 documentation for shipment. Radio certification must match the destination country — a module certified only for one region will clear the factory and then fail at customs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Battery or wired?

Wired where a transformer exists, because the call is instant and nobody charges anything. Battery everywhere else. In Europe, battery is the default.

Will it work with my existing chime?

Sometimes. It depends on the transformer voltage and the chime type. Because that is unknowable at the point of sale, we recommend bundling a wireless plug-in chime for retrofit markets.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

A Wi-Fi doorbell needs a network. For sites without one, the 4G variant with a SIM is the correct product — see the options in our intercom range.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 pieces per colour for a standard model with your branding. Custom tooling from about 3,000 to 5,000 pieces, 25 to 40 days.

Can the doorbell unlock a door?

On selected models, yes — via relay output to an electric strike or a paired lock. Tell us at enquiry stage because it changes the board.

How long does sampling take?

7 to 15 days on an existing platform. Doorbell firmware QA adds time, so plan a pilot batch before the full order.

Do you support RFID or fingerprint access?

Yes on selected platforms, mostly for small-office and gated-entrance channels rather than consumer retail.
