Pet products are bought with emotion and judged with severity. An owner who loves the brand will forgive a lot, but a feeder that misses a meal while they are away ends the relationship — and the review goes public. Sourcing decisions here should start from failure modes, not feature lists.

Two features that look optional and are not: battery backup, and scheduled feeding that runs locally. A router restart should never mean a missed meal.
Two-way audio and treat tossing sell well and are the main reason buyers pay above the entry price. Indoor cameras in a home are also the part that attracts privacy complaints. If you sell in Europe or the UK, decide where footage is stored and for how long before launch, because it is a product decision, not a legal footnote. Cloud recording drives recurring revenue; local storage avoids the objection. We can ship either.
Almost every pet brand we supply starts on the Tuya platform — the app exists, is localised, and is maintained by someone else. That is the right call until roughly the point where app experience becomes your differentiator. Building your own app means you own updates, hosting and app-store review cycles, which is a permanent cost, not a project.
Branding from 500 pieces, deeper customisation from around 3,000. Food-contact parts should be declared food-grade, and the mechanism needs anti-pinch protection. Pet has unusually strong repeat purchase — second pet, second home, replacement — so packaging and unboxing matter more here than in switches or sensors, where the box is thrown away.
We do not make GPS trackers with cellular subscriptions, and we do not do veterinary devices. If your range depends on either, we are the wrong factory for that line.
